HERMES: Human gesture data set

This site contains description of and links to the gesture data sets recorded and annotated by CVMT for the Hermes project.

Real data

The data set contains video of people doing a set of one-arm gestures. The gestures express communication between two people where one person signal to the other or try to direct the attention of the other person. The gestures/signals are: move left, move right, move closer, point up/raise arm, point right, and point forward.

Examples of the data.

The data contains 11 persons (per01 - per11). Each person performs 10 repetitions of the six gestures.
The data is devided into a zip file for each person. Each zip file contains 6 folders - one for each gesture. Each folder contains a set of png files numbered consecutively. The number of files in each folder vary (but usually around 900). Each repetition of the gesture is ended by a completely black image.

The actual data can be downloaded here

Virtual agent

A number of execution of the one-arm gestures have been recorded with a magnetic motion capture system and transfered to a virtual agent using the 3D rendering software Poser6. The real motion is recorded from up to seven different people.

The different executions are compiled into a video sequence for each gesture. The video are compressed using the Cinepak Codec by Radius (FOURCC: CVID). The resolution is 400x440 pixels.

The data is stored as follows:
